- The famous HARD ROCK Cafe is scheduled to open in Beirut very soon. Already signs are covering the facade of the new place in Manara(Beirut), near Cadmus Hotel.
- The first Lebanese girl to join the Playboy crowd. Her pictures will be published in our next issue (Suzanne Shaheen).
- The Washington Post named Jounieh "The playground of the Middle East". Believe me...it's true.
- B018 (Sin-el-Fil) is the hottest night spot in Beirut as described by the Herald Tribune earlier this year, and the New York Times (The Sophisticated Traveller-May96). It's caters to ALL people.
- Le Babylone is Beirut's latest "happening" restaurant. It is located in a 19th century mansion in Ashrafieh.
It has murals painted by the granddaughter of Arshile Gorky. The food is excellent and expensive. Here, Beirut is getting its joie de vivre back.
- If you want to go to a beach where inhibition is somehow lacking, get to Paradise Beach near Byblos. The sandy beach caters to all kinds and orientations(?).
- The Lebanese Broasdcasting Corporation International(LBCI) is broadcasting via satellite to Asia, Africa , and Europe.
- LBCI was the only station in the middle East to show the proper use of a condom on a banana, of course. Condom advertising is common in Lebanon. The ads can be seen on TV, billboards and in some bars.
- Lebanon is the only country in the Middle East(again) to offer anonymous AIDS testing through the efforts of local AIDS groups such as SOS SIDA, AIDS Action, the Lebanese AIDS Society, etc. By the way a campain was launched by the Ministry of Health advocating safer sex, and compassion to AIDS patients. Slogans ranged from "BE A MAN AND USE IT" to "BE FRIENDLY TO PEOPLE WITH HIV".
- Lebanon, as of August 96, opened its first Internet cafe in
the Hamra area in Beirut. Customers have access to the WEB
while enjoying all kinds of news TV outlets through direct
TV links in the cafe. Another step AHEAD.
